The Audience Chamber

The furniture of the Audience Chamber, completed in 1843, is the work of the English cabinetmaker Henry Thomas Peters, “furniture maker to the King”, active in Genoa in the 1830s and ’40s, and famous for his innovative technique of production in series by means of steam-driven machinery. The cabinetmaker, who was also responsible for the room’s wooden floor, adapted his approach, rooted in the English tradition and the Charles X style, to the requirements of the Savoy court, marking every piece with the CA monogram of Charles Albert. Peters reworked Neoclassical and Empire forms with some typical touches from his personal repertoire such as vegetal volutes and spirals.
