Jupiter Sends Astrea to the Earth

The allegorical figure of Justice is shown at the centre of the vault with a sword, emblem of power, and the scales, symbol of impartiality. In the centre, Jupiter sits on a throne of clouds with a sceptre and an eagle holding lightning in its beak. He is seen to be administering Justice to other deities, among which Juno can be identified, with a peacock in the foreground. It is Jupiter, then, who decides justice, warning us of the control exercised by the deity on human circumstances.
